3 Black Churches burnt in North Carolina, Georgia and S.Carolina in the past 5 days.

Between 1882 and 1968, the year Martin Luther King, Jr., was assassinated, three thousand four hundred and forty-six black men, women, and children were lynched in this country—a practice so vicious and frequent that Mark Twain was moved, in 1901, to write an essay called “The United States of Lyncherdom.” (Twain shelved the essay and plans for a full-length book on lynching because, he told his publisher, if he went forward, “I shouldn’t have even half a friend left down [South].”) These thousands of murders, as studied by the Tuskegee Institute and others, were a means of enforcing white supremacy in the political and economic marketplaces; they served to terrorize black men who might dare to sleep, or even talk, with white women, and to silence black children.

On the evening of June 17, 2015, a mass shooting took place at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in downtown Charleston, South Carolina. Nine people were killed, including the senior pastor, state senator Clementa C. Pinckney; a tenth person was shot and survived. The church is one of the United States’ oldest black churchesand has long been a site for community organization around civil rights.

Police arrested a suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Dylann Roof, in Shelby, North Carolina, the morning after the attack. The United States Department of Justice is investigating the possibility that the shooting was a hate crime or an act of domestic terrorism, among other motives.

In Charlotte, N.C., authorities say a June 24 fire at Briar Creek Baptist Church was the result of arson and is being investigated as a possible hate crime. NBC News reported that more than 75 firefighters were needed to extinguish the three-alarm fire. Two firefighters received medical treatment for heat-related injuries. The church sustained $250,000 in damage, including a collapsed ceiling and significant damage to a space used for a children’s summer camp.
A June 23 fire at God’s Power Church of Christ, a predominantly Black church in Macon, Ga., has been ruled as arson, although there is no indication it was a hate crime. As was reported in the Macon Telegraph, the front doors of the church were locked and wired shut when authorities arrived, but a side door was unlocked. According to this report at Raw Story ‘hate crime’ has yet to be suggested to determine.

And today,June 26, 2015 Early Morning Fire Destroys Tallahassee Church

Firefighters responded to the blaze around 5:20 a.m. at Greater Miracle Apostolic Holiness Church near the intersection of Wakulla Street and Campbell Street. No one is believed to have been in the church at the time of the fire. Power lines were also down in the area.

Former President Bill Clinton in a 1996 radio address after white supremacists went on a burning spree on black churches in the south .”In our country, during the fifties and sixties, black churches were burned to intimidate civil rights workers,” Clinton said. “I have vivid and painful memories of black churches being burned in my own state when I was a child. For 18 months from 1995 to 1996, more than 30 black churches were destroyed or damaged by arsonists.

Alabama Removes Confederate Flag From State Capitol.

Alabama Removes Confederate Flag From State Capitol

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley (R) quietly ordered the removal of the Confederate flag from the state Capitol grounds this morning, his office confirmed to local press.
When asked if this was due to the controversy over the flag following the shooting of nine black Americans at a church in Charleston, S.C., Bently said, “Yes, partially this is about that. This is the right thing to do. We are facing some major issues in this state regarding the budget and other matters that we need to deal with. This had the potential to become a major distraction as we go forward. I have taxes to raise, we have work to do. And it was my decision that the flag needed to come down.”
It was flying atop a Confederate monument on the statehouse grounds, reportedly a short walk from the governor’s mansion.

World Refugee Day…Refugees Have No Choice You Do .

World Refugee Day.Refugees Have No Choice You Do !

There are more refugees in the world today than ever previously recorded — and more than half are children.

Nearly 60 million people were counted as forcibly displaced in 2014, according to the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

If those people were the population of one country, it would be the 24th largest in the world.

One person out of every 122 on the planet is said to be either a refugee, internally displaced or seeking asylum.

The conflict in Syria has been the biggest single driver of displacement, according to the refugee agency’s Global Trends report –

Turkey became the world’s top refugee-hosting nation in 2014, with 1.59 million Syrians within its borders. Within the EU, Germany and Sweden received the most asylum applications.

Most refugees come from the Middle East, with 7.6 million Syrians taking to the road within their own country, and 3.88 million having become refugees.

Many more come from sub-Saharan Africa, fleeing conflicts in the Central African Republic, South Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo and elsewhere.

In Asia, the report highlights growing numbers of people fleeing Myanmar.

And in the Americas, there was a rise in the number of people seeking to escape gang violence in Central America.

Asylum claims in the United States were up 44% over the year.

In a briefing paper, Amnesty Internationalalso called the current refugee crisis the worst since the Second World War.

This Saturday, June 20, was the UNHCR’s World Refugee Day.

Retweet to tell South Carolina’s Governor @nikkihaley to take down the Confederate flag!
Everyone needs to call Nikki Haley’s office..leave a message @ 803-734-2100, be polite to the poor person who answers, but give your name and the state you are from, tell them you know the Gov can’t take the flag down, but she could sure speak about the need to take it down. Remind her that the entire country is watching what they do and if they leave it up, we will start a boycott.

WikiLeaks posts 60,000 Saudi secret documents online

The WikiLeaks website published more than 60,000 diplomatic documents from Saudi Arabia on Friday and promised to publish another half-a-million in the near future.

The documents, claimed WikiLeaks, disclose some of the operations of Saudi embassies around the world. Those to be published in the coming weeks include a number classified as “top secret” which were issued by the interior ministry and information department.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said that the new leaks expose “one of the most ambiguous dictatorships in history.” The new leaks, he said, coincide with the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, “which is a threat to itself and to its neighbours.”

WikiLeaks started publishing leaked documents in 2010. It started with American documents and said that it got the Saudi papers from the e-mail correspondence of the Saudi foreign ministry and secret reports.
